Community based activities in conjunction with the Event

Wednesday 25 November – morning (post row)
Mahe Drysdale, Tim Maeyens, Emma Twigg and Sally Kehoe will arrive in the Wanganui for training.

Thursday 26 November – Civic Welcome (tbc)
Mayor Michael Laws will officially welcome the visitors to Wanganui.

Friday 27 November – ‘Fenzian Wild Card Men’ and the
‘Wild Card Women’
Last year the field of seven single scullers were all either current of former world champions. We expect the same standard this year Fenzian Wild Card Men’s race.
The Wild Card Women will feature the best of women’s rowing that we expect will include world cup medal winning rowers.

Friday 27 November – Meet and Greet evening
Aromoho and Collegiate rowing will host a function where the athletes (Mahe, Tim, Emma and Sally) will speak about their rowing and thoughts on the upcoming racing.

Saturday 28 November
Wanganui Rowing Association is hosting the Jury Cup regatta which will see most of the rowing clubs in the North Island and upper South Island competing in the first major regatta of the club season.

Sunday 29 November – Race Day
Fun and entertainment for all the family including bouncy castle and food stalls. An hour before the main event begins there will be ‘quick fire’ corporate sprint races using the City Bridge as the start/finish line.
Situated near the City Bridge, the ‘Wanganui Chronicle Stage’ will host pre and post race interviews/presentations with the rowers as well as a ‘Challenge’ and ‘Haka’ performances.

Sunday 6 December – television programme goes to air
We will produce a commercial half hour programme that will be screened on One Sport (TVNZ) on Sunday afternoon 6 December. The programme will also be screened on Sky Sport – time to be confirmed.
