Wildcard Race

The Wanganui Rowing Association invite applications from outstanding scullers to compete in a 2000 metre Sculling Race, The Wild Card Race.

This event will be held on the Whanganui River, 5.00 pm, Friday 28 November 2009.
The winner of the Wild Card Race, will receive a $500.00 purse, and the right to participate in The Billy Webb
Centennial Challenge.

The features Tim Maeyens, triple World Champion,
Mahe Drysdale, and the winner of the Wild Card Race, racing over 5000 metres for a $5,000.00 Purse.
The Wild Card Race will be restricted to 7 entrants.

The Wanganui Rowing Association, in consultation with the High Performance Team, New Zealand Rowing, will select the 7 most able from all applicants.

The Wild Card Race will be run pursuant to the applicable rules of New Zealand Rowing.

To add to the success of last years event a women’s race will pave the way as a curtain raiser. New Zealand’s top woman’s single sculler and Beijing Olympian, Emma Twigg, will take on Australia’s former world champion, Sally Kehoe.

Twigg, who finished in fourth place – an impressive effort for the 22 year old – will have her work cut out against Kehoe who knows what it takes to win.
